Eligible Participants
Our target group is youth curlers between the ages of 11 and 20 who have participated in a Calgary and area curling club’s junior program for one or more years. With the age of Juniors set nationally at 20 and under as of January 1st of the current calendar year, registrations are accepted within this entire age category. Participants for this league tend to range from elementary to junior high school age. The CYCA Sunday League offers a structured schedule of games between teams with varied experience. Teams in the league can be made up of a combination of either gender or all of one gender. Each team is required to have a designated coach, but that coach does not have to have any previous curling experiences. If you are having trouble finding a coach, please contact the CYCA Sunday League Coordinator at sundayleague@cyca.ca. Please provide the contact information for a parent/guardian in the registration form below (including an email that can be checked for regular CYCA Sunday League newsletters).
Fees
Sunday league fees for 2021-2022 season:
$640/team or $160/person for the full season (Round 1, 2 & 3). If you choose to play with a five person team, the fifth person is also expected to pay $160. For players who join for rounds 2/3 the cost will be $130 and $100 to participate in round 3 only. Dates and timelines for Round 2/3 and Round 3 registration will be announced at a later date. Only individuals that are registered with the CYCA as Spares can be utilized as a spare in Sunday League (a spare list will be made available for all coaches). A post dated volunteer cheque of $75 is required per family, due at first Sunday League draw (financial assistance with this $75 volunteer fee is available for those receiving Jumpstart or Kidsport funding, please contact sundayleague@cyca.ca)
Divisions and Schedule
This season, pending registration numbers, there will be two divisions grouped according to skill level, with the opportunity for teams to move up or down after each round. This season the CYCA Sunday League will be visiting six different Calgary and Area curling clubs. Teams will be sent a pre-season survey to fill out so that bonspiel dates can be appropriately scheduled for. There will be two draws on each Sunday (10:00 AM - 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM), of which your team may play one or both.
COVID-19
The CYCA is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable Sunday League experience for all participants. To achieve this, we will actively monitor and follow the guidance of Curling Canada, Curling Alberta, all applicable health authorities, municipal bylaws and club rules. Please note that mask mandates and COVID-19 pre-game screening will be in force for the upcoming season. Verification of vaccine status may also be requested for spectators, coaches and participants 12 and over, as per applicable Public Health Orders from the Government of Alberta. The CYCA is aiming to return to as normal play as possible, but has developed various levels of additional COVID-19 mitigation strategies that can be implemented as needed. If the season is unable to continue under Public Health Orders issued in the future, the CYCA board of directors has agreed that curlers will be refunded based on a per game prorate of $10, unless the shutdown occurs after the completion of the second round (10 games). More information will be communicated to all participants at least one week before the start of Sunday League.
Police Checks
As per a motion passed by the CYCA Board of Directors on August 18, 2021, all registered coaches of CYCA Sunday League for the 2021-2022 season will be required to submit a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search to the CYCA Sunday League Coordinator. Please do not go and start the process of getting a police check until you are contacted directly by the CYCA Sunday League Coordinator Christopher Pratt and given an official volunteer letter.
