The Curlers Corner CYCA Sunday League
The Curlers Corner CYCA Sunday League is designed to bridge the transition between club development sessions and participation in the competitive provincial Junior Curling Tour. This league is open to any youth curler between the ages of 9–19 who has a minimum of 1 year of curling experience.
This league is ideal for curlers who:
• are participating in the competitive curling tour but want more ice time to improve their chances at provincial bonspiels,
• are not currently aiming for provincial competition,
• feel they are not yet ready for competitive curling or simply prefer to play recreationally, or
• just want to play more games and meet other youth curlers.
It truly is a league for all youth curlers.
Location
The CYCA does not have a “home” club. Therefore, we do not play all of our Sunday League games at a single location. We are a traveling league, which means players gain experience playing and reading the ice at various clubs in Calgary and the surrounding area. The location schedule will be announced prior to the start of the season.
Timing & Schedule
The Sunday League is divided into three rounds, and curlers may register for any or all rounds. If you wish to register for only one or two rounds, please email us for assistance.
• Each round consists of 5 games.
• Games are scheduled for both morning and afternoon, typically at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
• On rare occasions, there may be a second later afternoon game.
• Most teams will play one game per week. However, to accommodate teams participating in the Alberta Competitive Tour, some teams may need to play double headers occasionally.
• Games are timed (not played to a set number of ends). Each game is allotted two hours. At the 1 hour and 50-minute mark, a bell or announcement will signal the final end. No new ends may begin after that point.
• Game matchups and groupings will be announced one week prior to the start of each round. We try our best to keep families with curlers on different teams to play at the same location and same time and for teams to play at their home club whenever possible.
Scoring Format
Teams are divided into pools based on skill level and experience. Each round they will play a round-robin format over 5 weeks.
• A win earns 2 points,
• A tie earns 1 point per team,
• A loss earns 0 points.
The winning team's third is responsible for submitting the score to the league host after each game.
For Rounds 2 and 3, pools will be reshuffled:
The 2 lowest-scoring teams in Pool A move down to Pool B,
The 2 top-scoring teams in Pool B move up to Pool A, and so on for all groups.
Please Note: Teams joining after the season has begun will not be placed in Pool A, regardless of age or skill level, as they will not be eligible to win the league championship.
Coaching
•Each team is required to have a coach on the ice during games. We recognize that not all youth curlers are confident in calling their own games, so we allow on-ice coaching provided the coach is not in control of the rock.
•Coaches do not need formal certification, though we strongly encourage anyone interested in developing their coaching skills to explore coaching courses through Curling Alberta.
(For teams participating in the Provincial Curling Tour, please refer to the tour's specific rules and coaching policies.)
Extra Fun
In addition to curling, we will also host fun activities to celebrate youth and the sport of curling like;
• Special events/parties
• "Pop" socials
• The Button Board

Volunteer Bond
The CYCA relies on volunteers. To ensure all positions are filled, each parent or guardian must provide a post-dated cheque for $200.00 per curler, made out to Calgary Youth Curling Association and dated March 31, 2026.
This cheque serves as a volunteer bond.
If the volunteer point requirement is not met by March 31, the cheque will be cashed.
Cheques must be submitted before the curler’s first game.
